Friday Night Swing Jazz Ronnie Pierce Quintet
Sax: Ronnie PierceRonnie Pierce plays tenor, alto, soprano, and baritone saxophone, flute, and clarinet. He is also a bandleader and books a variety of music including Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, and Standards. Ronnie Pierce is an experienced professional and has appeared on the Today Show on NBC and has been in four movies with major stars. Ronnie has played with many notable players throughout his career, including Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Billy Eckstein, Mills Brothers, Hank Williams, Quincy Jones, Ernestine Anderson, Bumps Blackwell, and Ray Charles. From 1962-1974 he owed "The Vault" on 2nd and Union which was a very successful teenage dance club. Ronnie recorded and album of original go-go music entitled "GO-GO Noir" in 1965. Ronnie was inducted into the Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame in 2003.
Guitar: Jim Day
Jim has recorded with everyone. His credits include working with Herb Ellis, Oscar Peterson, the Tonight Show Band, and Joe Pass. As a recording guitarist he’s used to long hours in the studio and meticulously trimming out every piece of sound. But on stage, Jim loosens up and jams! Swing Jazz is a flowing, fun, exchange between artist and each time through it’s a bit different. Playing with music is what stage performance is about for Jim. The audience is a part of that play as well. For Jim, his rifs are made special for each audience. Each dance is made for the dancers… he loves the interaction between a band and the room. For such an accomplished musical talents, you’ve never met a guy who is more comfortable and friendly.
Trombone: John Terpin
John hails from BM Miami University Music Performance. John not only loves sharing music with listeners but also with learners. He was an adjunct music faculty at Earlham College in Richmond Indiana. John has performed with the West Virginia Symphony, Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, and with the Global Rhythms World Music Ensemble. Here in Seattle, John performs in two bands… exposing both his jazz and swing loving self as well as his bluesy soulful side. You can find him playing somewhere almost every night with the Ronnie Pierce Band and a member of the Seattle based blues band Howlin' Houndog & the Infamous Losers.
Drums: Ray Price
A legend in his own right, Ray has played with many jazz greats including extensive tours with Oscar Peterson, George Shearing, and the Stan Kenton Orchestra. If you know your jazz music then to you this is a list of greatness. Ray is modest about his long career providing the rhythm sections for many of our nations best and longest touring jazz trios and quintets. So if you been a fan of jazz, you have undoubtedly been listening to Ray for years! Come meet a man of enduring jazz talent… and stories of the road.
Bass: Mike Barnett
Michael Barnett began studying double bass with his father, a fine musician and teacher during his high school years and was soon performing professionally in clubs in the Joplin, Missouri area. After attending Yale University, he was based for several years in Kansas City, Missouri where he worked with and learned from many of the great players from the classic era of Kansas City Jazz. Mr. Barnett was a member of the house orchestra at the Lake Geneva, Wisconsin Playboy Resort Hotel for nearly 20 years accompanying most of the great names in jazz and pop music. He has been invited to jazz festivals throught the United States and Canada, performing with a long roster of notable musicians. Mr. Barnett toured extensively with the late Pearl Bailey and Louie Bellson, and in recent years toured even more extensively with Peter Nero. Mr. Barnett has been Peter Nero's principal bassist for over 18 years.
